Common and widespread in variety of open habitats in s. and central mainland; tussock and hummock grassland, gibber plain, saltbush and bluebush plains, playpens, rough pasture and edges of stubble paddocks. Nocturnal, terrestrial, forages for invertebrates in open spaces near cover; shelters in communal nests.
