Also known as Giant Mosaic-tailed Rat. Found in ne. Queensland from Mt. Elliot, s of Townsville to e Cape York, including Hinchinbrook Island. Common in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest, melaleuca forest, mangroves, semi-urban areas. Mostly solitary, strong agile climber; omnivorous, eats fruit, seeds, shoots, fungi, insects, crabs, small vertebrates, birds eggs; buries seeds in cache for future use.
