Widespread and common marsupial in coastal e. and s. Australiafrom Rockhampton (Q) to Timboon (Vic); from e. of Portland (Vic) to Eyre peninsula and Kangaroo Island (SA); sw WA from Jurien bay to israelite Bay. Lives in lowland and montane forest, southern groups live in drier country. Nocturnal terrestrial, shy, omnivorous, eats mostly plants, seed, fungi, arthropods.
