Also called Bali Cattle. Introduced. Domesticated form of Banteng, a wild ox of S-E Asia. Twenty introduced into Coburg Peninsula in 1849 from Bali. Now confined to peninsula. Supposedly population of 2000-3500 controlled for safari hunting. Nocturnal and crepuscular, nervous and alert. Shelters during the day and feed on open areas at night. Grazes on sedges, trees and shrubs, sometimes seaweed.
