One of the Eastern Queensland rock wallaby complex, the largest. Widespread and common in se Queensland from about 100 kms nw of Brisbane to the Fitzroy River; s of Rockhampton; inland near Clermont and Rubyvale.

Locally common in tropical woodlands with perennial grasses, usually on plains and low hills, in ce3ntral Cape York, Top End of NT and Kimberley of WA.  Gregarious, social groups with dominant hierarchy among males.

Uncommon but widely distributed in rainforests and adjacent eucalyptus and melaleuca woodlands of ne Queensland from Mount Spec to Iron Range. Nocturnal, mostly arboreal, moves noisily through canopy, jumping from tree to tree. Generally insectivore, also eats fruit and honey.
