Also known as Mouse Dunnart. Widespread in variety of heathy dry sclerophyll forest and mallee heath across eastern Australia from Cooktown to near Sydney, then sweeping inland to near Adelaide and across western Victoria. Locally common in se Queensland and ne NSW, rare elsewhere. Nocturnal terrestrial carnivore, eating mostly insects and spiders.
