Primitive dog, derived from Gray Wolf. Introduced to Australia about 4000 years ago. Over most of mainland (not Tasmania) except parts of southern WA and agricultural areas in NSW, Vic, southern Q, and se SA. kept out by dingo fence. Breeds once a year, usually only dominate pair breed and rest of pack help raise young. Considerable interbreeding with domestic dogs.
