deliberately introduced into Australia in 1860s, now widespread below Tropic of Capricorn, further north in WA. Nocturnal, diurnal where not disturbed. Predominately carnivore, supplemented by berries, fruit and insects. Responsible for local extinction of many populations of small to medium sized mammals.
