Also known as Short-nosed Bandicoot and as Quenda in WA. Locally common in heathy forest and coastal scrub from Sydney s. and w. to Etre Pen. SA; Tas., and sw WA. Subspecies nautilus endangered. Mostly nocturnal but can be predominantly diurnal in absence of predators. Solitary, shy, territorial, aggressive. Omnivorous.
